I love hearing others opinions, but sometimes I just want to raise my hand and politely say "Really?!?!" I had this moment the other day in class when we had a guest speaker, Diana Fannon, a principal from the Richard's Group. She was giving a wonderful speech on branding oneself to go out in the work place and the image we portray. During her talk she did an activity that had something to do with image and what not- honestly I can't remember now.....but anyways she said something about everyone knows the image that Southwest Airlines has worked so hard to portray...then I lost respect for her, got hung up, and didn't listen to much else. She said," I worry about Southwest because Airtran is completely different and doesn't embody the ideals of Southwest."
So, when was the last time she ACTUALLY flew Airtran? She probably never has- she seemed a little to "good" for that airline. HA anyways why I really got hung up on the comment was because three days before I had just flown Airtran to and from Chicago. I was pleasantly surprised with the service and friendliness of the airline. Everyone I came in contact with seemed genuinely nice and happy. On each flight the captain walked up and down the isle greeting customers and assuring us he was a good pilot...on one flight the "good-ole-pilot" from Arkansas even played his harmonica and sung to us while we were delayed on the runway.....
Pretty close to what Southwest stands for, right? They have either had several talks on "branding" the airline to fit the image of Southwest, or Diana misspoke...I choose the later....way to go Airtran, keep it up!
